2023 Binary Challenge

Bi•nar•y: (Adjective) Consisting of, indicating, or involving two
For this challenge, we explore the simplest definition of binary, “consisting of, indicating, or involving two”, by using only two colors in our quilts.
Challenge Guidelines:
  • Your quilt should only include two colors. For example, red and white or turquoise and brown are both two-color combinations.
  • All values of your two colors may be used. For example, your reds may range from pink to dark red. Unless orange is your second color, you may not include orange with your reds because it is a combination of red and yellow and is a separate color.
  • Both solids and prints may be used in your quilt.  Prints must be predominately one of your two colors.
  • Your quilt should be 24”x24”
  • Your quilt must be two layers of fabric with batting between them and secured with quilting. Your quilting can be done by hand, machine, or both.
  • Please include a label with your name and name of your quilt.
We will share finished (or almost finished) quilts at the June guild meeting. Quilts will be hung during the month of August in Esther’s and in the pavilion during the quilt show in September.

2022 Very Peri

Color of the Year: Very Peri. The rules are simple.
  1. You must use at least some periwinkle fabric in your quilt.
  2. Your quilt should be approximately 24” x 24”
  3. Let your creativity flow
The guild has purchased a bolt of Andover’s Century Solid, “Periwinkle,” to get you started. We will be handing fat quarters out to anyone who is interested in participating at the February meeting. If you are unable to attend and would like a fat quarter, please reach out to Katie and she will coordinate pick up or delivery.

2021 Upcycle challenge

The theme 2021 for our guild challenge is UPCYCLE / CREATIVE REUSE. It’s easy to be green when you recycle textiles that you no longer wear or want.

Size: 24” wide by 24” long, and up to 30” wide x 36” long

At least 80% of the fabrics you use must be “scavenged” (see list of examples of scavenged items below). The remaining 20% can be solid fabrics from your stash. Consider backing your quilt with scavenged fabrics as well!

You can work individually, or collaborate with other quilt guild members and submit your challenge as a team.

2020 Stripe Challenge

For 2020 Guild members who choose to participate incorporated stripes into their creation.
  • Striped fabrics and/or made stripes
  • Size:  24 inch OR up to 30x36 for a child-sized quilt
  • Designed and created by individual member OR in collaboration with another Guild member.
